Cooking Weeds: A Vegetarian Cookery Book $17.95 The weeds of the field and garden have two big advantages in the kitchen: firstly, they are free to anyone; secondly, they contain any amount of dietary goodness, often not so readily available form the anemic products of the hothouse and intensive farm. And what is really needed is a set of recipes to turn them into everybody’s favorite supper. This Vivien Weise provides in spades. With plenty of clear illustrations of the plants in question-ensuring that every reader will be able to identify the quarry when out gathering-Vivien has created a series of vegetarian dishes (all the recipes are meat-free_ with a defiantly modern slant: comfrey hamburgers, daisy ginger soup, dandelion salad with a banana yogurt sauce, dead nettle eggplant spread, ground elder layered pancakes, and many more. The great charm of this book is that you can go into the vegetable plot with two baskets: one for dinner and one for the compost heap. While gathering you supper, you weed the garden. In the popular weed-cookery courses the Vivien gives at her home in Germany, she demonstrates the culinary value of upwards of a hundred different plants. The value of weeds is a given in Mediterranean countries where wild-plant salads are commonplace. It was also understood by our own ancestors who recognized that many of these plants-now derided as pests-might actually taste nice (stinging nettle soup is but one hangover from this era), and that they also had a great therapeutic value: the lesser celandine, for instance, was a particular remedy for scurvy; the dandelion is a diuretic. They also have very high vitamin, mineral and protein content, especially in comparison with cultivated vegetables. Forexample, the dandelion has 3.3% protein per 100g (the lettuce 0.9%); ground elder has 648mg of vitamin A per 100g (broccoli 370mg); Good King Henry 3.5 mg of iron per 100g (swiss chard 2.2mg). Joraform Compost Tumbler $285 XWF1000: Rotation is the key. Mixing is necessary for composting to work, both for bringing fresh waste into contact with already decayed material, thereby rendering the process more effective, and in order to add air, necessary for the high demands for oxygen the process makes. Rotation is a simple matter, as the Joracomposter is specially constructed for this purpose. Insufficient aeration can lead to unpleasant odours in the compost. The Joracomposter Heat and efficiency. The breakdown of organic material into compost generates heat through the action of micro-organisms. Different micro-organisms start working at different temperatures. The Joracomposter is well insulated and this allows the temperature to achieve at least 167 degrees Fahrenheit. The inbuilt insulation allows the composter to reach these temperatures which means that the micro-organisms requiring such temperatures can do their work, something that is almost impossible to achieve in an uninsulated composter. Using an insulated, rotating composter ensures a more even heat distribution and an active decomposition process throughout the entire volume of waste. This is why composting is so rapid, occurring in approximately 6 8 weeks time. The high temperature makes the Joracomposter especially suited for kitchen waste, both cooked and uncooked, including meat and fish scraps. The Joracomposter is divided into two compartments to make emptying and maturing the compost easier. Features: -Tumbler. -Available in 33 Gallons, 70 Gallons and 106 Gallons sizes. -Insulation 2.16 polyethylene plastic. -Dual chamber lets you keep adding new materials in one bin while other matures. -Reduces and eliminates odors. -Rodent-proof design. -Made out of galvanized steel for longer sustainability. -Constructed for ease and simplicity of rotation. -Comes with low stand. -Assembly required. Specifications: -33 Gallons suitable for smaller households (1 to 4 people – depending on how much waste is generated). -70 |

Kansha: Celebrating Japan’s Vegan and Vegetarian Traditions $35 The celebration of Japan’s vegan and vegetarian traditions begins with kansha—appreciation—an expression of gratitude for nature’s gifts and the efforts and ingenuity of those who transform nature’s bounty into marvelous food. The spirit of kansha, deeply rooted in Buddhist philosophy and practice, encourages all cooks to prepare nutritionally sound and aesthetically satisfying meals that avoid waste, conserve energy, and preserve our natural resources. In these pages, with kansha as credo, Japan culinary authority Elizabeth Andoh offers more than 100 carefully crafted vegan recipes. She has culled classics from shōjin ryōri, or Buddhist temple cuisine (Creamy Sesame Pudding, Glazed Eel Look-Alike); gathered essentials of macrobiotic cooking (Toasted Hand-Pressed Brown Rice with Hijiki, Robust Miso); selected dishes rooted in history (Skillet-Scrambled Tofu with Leafy Greens, Pungent Pickles); and included inventive modern fare (Eggplant Sushi, Tōfu-Tōfu Burgers).  Andoh invites you to practice kansha in your own cooking, and she delights in demonstrating how “nothing goes to waste in the kansha kitchen.” In one especially satisfying example, she transforms each part of a single daikon—from the tapered tip to the tuft of greens, including the peels that most cooks would simply compost—into an array of wholesome, flavorful dishes. Decades of living immersed in Japanese culture and years of culinary training have given Andoh a unique platform from which to teach. She shares her deep knowledge of the cuisine in the two-part A Guide to the Kansha Kitchen. In the first section, she explains basic cutting techniques, cooking methods, and equipment that will help you enhance flavor, eliminate waste, and speed meal preparation. In the second, Andoh demystifies ingredients that are staples in Japanese pantries, but may |

Raising Composting Earthworms for Fun and Profit $9.99 This eBook was written to encourage home owners and apartment dwellers to compost their kitchen and paper waste with Red Wiggler composting earthworms. This book, which covers every aspect of vermiculture, tells you where to get your composting earthworms (for free no less); how to build worm bins and windows to house your worms; what to feed your earthworms; how to harvest and use worm casting in your garden and potted plants; and, for those who would like to raise earthworms to enhance their income, a sure-fire fool proof way to market earthworms and earthworm related products. The information contained in the chapters on earthworm biology, monitoring the environment of the worm’s bedding; trouble shooting; and what composting earthworms can and cannot eat are essential for any successful vermiculture endeavor. Finally, and most importantly, in the opening chapter entitled Why Grow Earthworms the author explains why we should be composting our house waste with earthworms (did you know that worms will eat 50% of everything that goes into your garbage can?). In this chapter he emphasizes the environmental damage that our present waste management system is doing to our environment and destructive effect that local and long haul garbage trucks are having on our local streets and highways. Repellem Tall Kitchen Trash Bags, 13 Gallons, 15 bags $6.94 For those who want to keep the dogs, cats, raccoons, mice, flies, mosquitoes, ants, cockroaches, wasps, bees and many other nuisance insects and animals away, our Repellem line of trash bags will be greatly appreciated. Whether inside or outside homes, businesses, special events, picnics, parties, camping, boating, fishing or hunting trips, everyone will enjoy a pest free environment!. . brbr. . Since Repellem products use All Natural Ingredients to repel pests, use recycled plastics in production, and are 100% Biodegradable, consumers will appreciate how they work and how environmentally friendly the products are. The fresh Repellem scent smells nice (no chemical scent) and the insects and animals do not see the red color of the bags (no attraction since their visual spectrum of light differs from humans). . brbr. . All Repellem products pass many ASTM standards, such as ASTM method D.5338.92, ASTM G.21, ASTM G.22, and ASTM D.5511-94. These industry standards are rigorous tests that verify our products special functions. . brbr. . Repellem products are 100% biodegradable, compostable, non-toxic, and chemical free. And by the way, all Ecosmartplastics products never need oxygen, light, heat, moisture or mechanical stress to turn into soil in 1 to 7 years, totally biodegrading and leaving no remnants behind. All our products can be buried in any typical landfill (95% of all trash ends up here), or placed in your backyard compost bin, and you can rest assured they will disappear in a short time! They can be recycled and/or used again and they will not harm the environment. . Its also important to keep in mind that most bags on the market today are made to be extremely thin so consumers get more bags for their buck. Unfortunately these cheap bags are so poorly made that they usually rip and break apart easily. Thats why REPELL-EM garbage bags are 2-3 times thicker and stronger than those supermarket bags. |

UrBin Grower $70.04 Grow a complete salad right in your kitchen! The Urbin Grower is a compact raised bed organic growing system perfect for the urban family. It can be used anywhere anytime – a patio balcony fire escape backyard greenhouse or even inside during the cold months. Its innovative design allows for portability yet also encourages a bountiful harvest. By utilizing the Square Foot Gardening Method the UrBin Grower allows you to grow endless vegetables in the same manageable container. Take the guesswork out of watering and water in the way nature intended! The UrBin Grower is a self-watering container in which your plants take the water they need out of the visible reservoir. This way you can see exactly how much or how little water your particular crops desire. This is a healthy sustainable way to water your plants. As the water is drawn upwards through the soil into your root systems it delivers essential nutrients to your plants rather than those nutrients being washed away like when you water from above. Simply place your UrBin Grower container on the watering tray and then place the soil separator in the container. The soil separator ensures that your soil is not saturated and you will never experience root rot. In two corners of your container the soil will dip down into the water reservoir and wick moisture up to your root systems. Eat healthy and more local than ever! With the UrBin Grower s organic soil amendments you never have to worry about getting trace minerals into your diet again. These trace minerals are best transferred into the human body through vegetables grown in soil rich in trace minerals. Simply mix the soil amendments with some good quality garden soil and organic compost and you have a sustainable soil system that will last for up to 5 years. The UrBin Grower’s soil amendments help you to eat healthier year round. The UrBin Grower kit comes with two complete containers a 16-page instruction manual an instructional DVD a set of seed starter trays an |
