Worm Farming Secrets – Composting Worms For Sale by Paul Vincent
One of the burgeoning niche businesses these days is vermiculture. Although the demand is not that high compared to other industries, being able to be one of the pioneers will be a sure customer magnet once this industry becomes popular. But in order to be successful in raising composting worms for sale, there are a few information that you have to know.
The first thing that you need to know is where you could find composting worms for sale. The best source for this is through other vermiculturist in your area. In case there is no other vermiculturist, you could turn to the Internet to easily locate one.
You would also need to know what kind of worm that you should buy. Basically, you could categorize composting worms either by their habitat lines or tropic classes. The three tropic classes are geophagous, phyto-geophagous and phyto-phagous while the worms could also be categorized into endogeic, epigeic and the anecic based on their habitat. More often than not, these classicifications overlap with each other but knowing which class or habitat your worms belong would be a great help towards the success of your endeavor.
Finally, you would need to survey the market needs for your worm business to succeed. There’s no use of supplying something if there is really no need for it in your locality. There are three groups that you could cater to. One is the line fishing industry which needs live worm as bait. Another is other people who wanted to start their own vermiculture either to produce their own compost or for business. Finally, you could sell the compost that you have produced in raising those worms to farmers raising “green products”.
Raising worms as a business is not an easy task. It is doable but like in any other business endeavor, you also have to get down and get your hands dirty to be able to reap success.
